SAFEDyVac: Perfect bagging results thanks to perfectly coordinated systems and containers
Containers and packaging systems: when these two components are perfectly matched to the product to be filled, customers receive a bagging result that sets new standards in terms of cleanliness, weight accuracy, filling performance and compaction. The packaging machine manufacturer Greif-Velox and the paper sack manufacturer dy-pack, both world market leaders in their respective segments, have pooled their expertise for precisely this purpose: Together, they have developed three optimized bag types under the name "SAFEDyVac", which ensure high savings potential and end customer satisfaction for users of VeloVac vacuum technology for bagging ultra-fine powders.
The overall packaging result of a bagging system can only ever be as good as the container that is filled with it - and vice versa. Both Greif-Velox and dy-pack design their products with a focus on maximizing customer benefits. For users who bag ultra-light powders such as carbon black for battery production or silica for hygiene products, Greif-Velox offers VeloVac, a vacuum technology that compacts and fills so cleanly that users can save up to 75 percent on storage and logistics costs. For maximum efficiency and cost savings, the use of a container optimized for the system and the respective product is essential: a paper valve bag that provides both sufficient ventilation during filling and the required product protection. Together, Greif-Velox and dy-pack have now closed this gap in vacuum bagging at the interface between the system and the container.
Dust-free and clean pallet image
With the SAFEDyVac ECO, the SAFEDyVac Advanced and the SAFEDyVac Professional, the two companies have developed three bag variants for bagging various ultra-light powders, which optimally cover the respective segment-specific requirements in terms of product protection and performance characteristics. If a customer has additional requirements, such as hazardous goods approval, the manufacturers also offer tailor-made customer solutions.
The SAFEDyVac Professional, for example, is equipped with optimum moisture protection and special venting technology to meet the high requirements and purity regulations for bagging lamp black for battery production. The SAFEDyVac ECO is particularly suitable for customers who require sustainable, fully recyclable packaging. With the new packaging developments, the bagging result is optimized because the system and container are precisely matched to the individual customer products. All bags guarantee dust-free packaging and a clean pallet appearance with optimally compacted, dimensionally stable and easy-to-handle bags.
Leaner development and validation process
The definition of standard bag dimensions for the three bag variants for carrying out bagging tests results in considerable advantages for users. Firstly, the development process becomes leaner: the time required to determine the optimum bag dimensions for the packaging of the respective product during trials is reduced by half. Secondly, the results are comparable and more precise statements can be made about bagging behavior. This leaner development and validation process results in average cost savings of more than a third of the usual expenditure. The use of standard materials in stock also ensures better availability of the desired containers.
Savings in logistics costs thanks to optimized packing pattern
Not only are the paper packaging and the development and validation process significantly improved at SAFEDyVac, both companies go one step further: the final packaging concept is optimized for the maximum possible amount of product and pack size. By using the VeloVac gripper Velox, the product is already compacted to such an extent that up to 75 percent of storage and logistics costs are saved compared to conventional solutions. Thanks to the additional optimization of the packaging concept, the available container space is also fully utilized without causing abrasion damage. This particularly efficient use of the available container space means that customers can not only benefit from savings in storage and transport costs, but also reduce their ecological CO2 footprint.
Measurable benefits in terms of filling accuracy, filling performance, sustainability and cleanliness
"In this partnership, we can not only develop bags that are tailored to the system, but also perfectly adapt our systems to the pack," says Sebastian Pohl, Director Sales & Marketing at Greif-Velox. "There has never been anything like this before." Bernd Lamers, Customer Service Manager at dy-pack, adds: "This concentration of expertise in the development of efficient systems and intelligent packaging design brings our customers clearly measurable benefits in terms of filling accuracy, filling performance, sustainability and cleanliness."
